SSIS Pre-School Division believes that all young learners are entitled to a holistic education- physical, intellectual, emotional and social development. We are committed to creating a nurturing and conducive learning environment for our students. Through our caring and well-trained teachers, opportunities and guidance are given to help each young learner to develop to his/her maximum potential.

Our Pre-School Curriculum “GEMS”
In Shanghai Singapore International School – Pre-School Division, we see each of our students as “GEMS". We believe in giving young children a head start through exploration of the environment and a variety of learning experiences; motivating and maximizing each individual child’s potential through scaffolding his/her learning process.

Our Pre-School Programme
SSIS pre-school programme is created to equip every child with the ability to :
Ø Develop an understanding of themselves
Ø Develop a sense of awareness of their environment and their community
Ø Relate to the world and be a ready and responsible global citizen

School hours will be from 0830 hrs to 1530 hrs; Monday to Friday. The school will provide 2 snacks and lunch daily. Nursery and K1 level will nap after lunch daily (Approx. 1-1.5 hr).

Our programme emphasizes on a bilingual and diverse learning environment to cater to the children’s learning interest, strength and needs. Our curriculum uses an integrated thematic based approach which incorporates life-skills, knowledge, positive attitudes and values within our young learners. A variety of learning experiences and activities such as learning centres, hands-on activities, field trips, creative writing and “Integrated Project Work” are incorporated into our programme.

Our curriculum aims to promote independence, self-confidence, communication skills, team collaboration, logical thinking/problem solving skills and leadership skills. “Integrated Project Work”- (IPW) was introduced to our Kindergarten 1 & 2 in 2005/06. Through IPW, our young learners learn to research for relevant information on a chosen topic using different media, work in small group to put together the information collected before they do a presentation of their projects in class. Our young learners will have the opportunity to undertake self initiated and independent learning tasks which promotes creativity and ability to express thoughts, feelings, ideas in both oral and written form of both the English and Chinese Language. Our pre-school programme also aims at preparing our young learners to be competent and ready for their formal academic education when they move on to our Primary Division and also for a lifetime of learning.

Our Facilities
Our MinHang Pre-School Division started our 2007/08 academic year in the new pre-school block within our MinHang Campus on 301 ZhuJian Road. With our purpose built facilities and child-friendly environment our young learners are nurtured and developed to reach their fullest potential in the various aspects of their development.

With a well-planned and conducive environment, our young learners are encouraged to learn and explore within a safe and inviting atmosphere. You will find thematic-based learning centers in our self-contained classrooms which provide an environment that nurture, stimulate and challenge the mind of our young learners. Such environment enhances not only the development of these young children physical development but also their intellectual growth as well as the development of good work habits, attitudes and values.
