Sun Island Summer Language Program

Your Learning Journey Begins Here

The true immersion of Chinese learning, with a whole new experience!

TARGET GROUP

Students, aged 14-18, who are interested in learning the Chinese Language and Chinese culture and have completed 1 year’s study of Basic Chinese.

TARGET NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

Minimum 20 enrolments to start the program. Maximum 10 participants per class. Participants will be assigned to different classes based on their
placement test results.

OBJECTIVES OF PROGRAM

Stimulate interest in the learning of the Chinese language and Chinese culture by adopting a holistic teaching approach

。Enhance learning of Chinese Modern History, emphasizing the development and transformation of Shanghai, China’s most modern metropolis

。Provide an opportunity to visit Expo 2010 held in Shanghai, China

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

June 27 - July 17, 2010

。3 weeks inclusive of 5 days of Chinese language and culture learning classes and 2 days of excursions per week

。Accommodation will be provided by Shanghai Sun Island Resort whilst lessons will be carried out at SSIS

MAIN CONTENT

Intensive Chinese Language Program
SSIS will offer an Intensive Chinese Language Program aimed at increasing participants’ knowledge and understanding of the Chinese language
and building up confidence in communicating in Chinese. Participants will attend 20 hours of Chinese lessons per week.

Chinese Culture
Participants will learn basic Chinese Calligraphy, Painting, Tea Ceremony and Paper Cutting.

Chinese Martial Arts
Participants will learn basic Chinese martial arts including Wushu, Taichi and Qigong.

Expo 2010
Participants will visit the Shanghai Expo as part of their learning journey.

Sightseeing in Shanghai and neighboring cities
Participants will visit tourist attractions in Shanghai suburbs as well as downtown, including the Shanghai Museum and Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center. Additionally, students will go on trips to nearby cities such as Suzhou and Hangzhou, which are renowned for their natural beauty and cultural heritage.
